I am the Arthur Pappas Professor and Chair of the Department of Orthopedics at the University of Massachusetts Medical School and Orthopedist-in-chief of the UMASS Memorial Healthcare System. I have had a long history of carrying out clinical and outcome research in diverse areas of orthopedics. I am the principal investigator of one of the only two Radiostereometric Analysis (RSA) centers in the United States for RSA imaging of hip prostheses and spine fusion. I am also a co-investigator in FORCE-TJR, a national research network of diverse orthopedic practices that enrolled 30,000 total joint replacement patients and tracking important outcomes over time. I am also Chair of the National Stakeholder Committee for the FORCE-TJR outcome study and as such discuss the study findings with lead arthroplasty surgeons from all professional societies. As a practicing arthroplasty surgeon and researcher, I can provide a unique perspective on the patient, surgical and delivery factors that influence outcomes following total joint replacement among patients with knee arthritis.
