In 2000 Degree in Civil Engineering at “Mediterranea” University of Reggio Calabria.
In 2004 Ph.D. in Transportation Engineering at “Mediterranea” University of Reggio Calabria.
He is Associate Professor, at “Tor Vergata” University of Rome Department of Enterprise Engineering. He teaches “Transport and Environment” and his research activity is mainly addressed to develop a tool that supports travellers on multimodal unreliable transport networks with real-time personalized information, and to develop and apply models and methods for the analysis and the design of freight and passenger transport systems at urban and extra-urban scale.
In the field of passenger mobility, he studies different aspects connected to set-up new generation of route planners, named PTA (Personalised Traveller Advisor) and designed for mobile applications. This type of tool gives pre-trip and en-route dynamic real-time information to support the traveller in the dynamic choice of the best path from the personal (dis)utility point of view on an unreliable multimodal network. Then, the research activities mainly deal with the theoretical aspects of the intelligent normative optimal strategy searching with on-line real-time data and of the individual, instead of user group (average), path choice modelling used to support path choice set individuation, path utility calculation and user preference learning process
In the field of freight transport, he is deepening several aspects connected to the analysis of mobility demand, transport supply with attention to the problems of urban freight movements and innovatory intermodal transport system by fast ships and international freight transport. His interests are addressed to the problems related to supply (statistic-descriptive models for the evaluation of Freight Level of Service Attributes at national scale; network models for intermodal transport; models for the analysis of freight platforms, cost functions for internal links of freight platforms), to demand (forecasting and analysis methods and models, models for the choice of target time), to supply and demand interaction (assessment of land use, safety and environmental impacts).
His expertise in the Transportation Engineering field is confirmed by the numerous national and international collaboration with other universities (for instance University of Cantabria), as well as by the recent involvement in the research projects titled “Guidelines for City Logistics Plans editing” supported by Italian Ministry of Research, “Innovative solutions to freight distribution in the complex large urban area of Rome” supported by Volvo Research and Educational Foundations, “Guidelines for the Italian transhipment ports of Gioia Tauro, Taranto and Cagliari” supported by Italian Ministry of Research, and “Smart urban freight transport: planning and DYNAmic management of urban LOADing and unloading areas - DynaLOAD”, funded by the Unconvering Excellence 2014 Programme at Tor Vergata University of Rome.
He is member of Editorial Board of international journal: Journal of Urban Planning Development (ASCE), Modern Applied Science, Traffic and Transportation Engineering, Logistics and Supply Chain Management, and he is serving as reviewer and program committee member in national and international conferences. He has published more than 90 papers in transportation area.
