Biography Dr.rer.med. Dr.habil. Hans-Joachim Freisleben, MPharm, Professor of Biomedical Pharmacology:
Prof. Freisleben has a pharmaceutical and medical background from Goethe-University in Frankfurt am Main (Germany) holding a Master of Pharmacy (MPharm) and a Doctor of Medical Science (Dr.rer.med.) majoring Biochemical Pharmacology, Medical Microbiology and Laboratory Medicine. After his Postdoc at the University of Berkeley (CA, USA) and his German “Habilitation” with a Dr. habil. in Physiological Chemistry he was appointed Assistant Professor (Priv.-Doz.) as Head of the Laboratory of Microbiological Chemistry at Frankfurt University (1988-1993). In 1993, he took over a Human Capital and Mobility Project of the European Community on “iron overload and oxidative stress in thalassaemia” at the University Hospital of Patras (Greece) and the University of Palermo (Italy) followed by a Guest Professorship at the University of Graz (Austria). Then, Prof. Freisleben assigned as Subject Matter Consultant for Medicine to the Six Universities Development and Rehabilitation (SUDR) Project in Indonesia and was appointed Professor of Biomedical Pharmacology at the Medical Faculty of Universitas Indonesia (FMUI) in 1998. From 1999 until 2001, he was a visiting Professor to the University of Sydney (Australia) with a cooperation project on thalassemia patients from Jakarta (Indonesia). He returned to Germany and was elected President of the German-Indonesian Medical Association, German Section (DIGM e.V.). In 2009, Prof. Freisleben returned to FMUI as Head of the Medical Research Unit. From 2015, he has been Professor emeritus, still supervising doctoral students as Guest Professor. Prof. Freisleben authored and co-authored more than 150 scientific articles in peer reviewed journals and books and contributed to about 200 scientific congresses around the globe. He is a co-founder of the Indonesian Societies of Toxicology and of Free Radical Research, a member of several international professional associations and an often-awarded reviewer and a member of the Editorial Board of several scientific journals. He was also awarded by various universities and frequently as an invited speaker in international congresses. Recently, he edited one of his most comprehensive books “Sie kamen als Forscher und Ärzte - 500 Jahre deutsch-indonesische Medizingeschichte” published by Köppe-Verlag Köln, Germany, ISBN 978-3-89645-228-3.
