V Ferreira graduated in Biology from the University of Coimbra in 2002 and completed her PhD degree in Biology (specific field: Ecology) from the University of Coimbra in 2007. After completing her PhD, V Ferreira obtained a post-doc fellowship in 2007. During this fellowship (2007–2012), V Ferreira carried out research at the IMAR (University of Coimbra, Portugal), at the EcoLab (CNRS, Toulouse, France), and at the Benthos Ecology Laboratory (Federal University of Minas Gerais, Brazil) in order to evaluate the effects of global change factors on stream communities and ecosystem function. V Ferreira obtained a second post-doc fellowship in 2011. During this fellowship (2012–2015), V Ferreira carried out research at the IMAR (University of Coimbra, Portugal), and at the School of Biological Sciences (Royal Holloway University of London, England) in order to assess the effects of anthropogenic activities on stream processes by mean of meta-analysis. Since May 2015, V Ferreira is a FCTInvestigador at MARE (University of Coimbra). V Ferreira has been complementing her formation by attending > 25 advanced courses/workshops on topics related with her scientific field, data analysis, and science communication. V Ferreira has participated in 8 research projects (3 with international funding) and in a long term stream monitoring program carried out by the Freshwater Ecosystems team of the MARE as a service rendered to a mining company, in addition to her individual projects in the scope of her PhD and post-doc fellowships and FCTInvestigator contract.
Besides the research activitity, V Ferreira has also (co-)supervised master students and fellows, lectured in advanced post-graduation courses, (co-)organized conferences and courses, reviewed projects for international funding agencies, reviewed papers for 29 international scientific journals, organized and participated in science communitication activities.
