João Malça holds a PhD (Mechanical Engineering, 2011), MSc (Heat Transfer, 2000) and Mechanical Engineering Degree (Thermodynamics and Fluids, 1997) from the University of Coimbra. Malça’s research interests include energy, environmental and technical assessments of renewable energy systems, life-cycle assessment and industrial ecology. Malça has twenty years of teaching experience at the Mechanical Engineering Dept of the Polytechnic Institute of Coimbra, being responsible for Renewable Energy Systems; Energy and Environment; and Industrial Refrigeration and Air Conditioning. He is President of the Mechanical Engineering Dept since October 2017 and is a senior member of the Portuguese Association of Industrial Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning Engineers. He is also a senior researcher in the Center for Industrial Ecology of the University of Coimbra. In the past, Malça has been Coordinator of the graduation in Mechanical Engineering (2012-2016) and a visiting researcher at the Institute National de la Recherche Agronomique (INRA), in Paris (March-August 2002).
