Biography

I graduated in Philosophy by Coimbra University in 1981, completed a Master degree in Sciences of Education in 1994 and a PhD in Sciences of Education in 2004, both by Faculty of Psychology and Sciences of Education of Coimbra University. Meanwhile, I followed a special course in 2001 at the Institute of Education of London and improved my technical skills, namely concerning qualitative and quantitative data treatment recurring to ICT devices such as NVivo and SPSS software. My research interests are Curriculum development, teachers’ training, schools’ evaluation and Higher Education pedagogy. Such topics are in line with my publications. In 2008, After a career as teacher ( both in a secondary school and at a Higher Education level) I started to work as a researcher at Centre for Educational Research and Intervention of Faculty of Psychology and Sciences of Education of Porto University. I am co-coordinator of Schools’ Life Observatory. From 2008 until present I have been, mainly, research member of several research projects like Evaluation of teachers’ training impact (2008-2009), Argumentative reasoning is needed (2009-2010); From peer to peer (2009-2014); Project FEUP: evaluation of a course which aims to promote students integration ( 2010-2011); Putting knowledge in context towards the Improvement of students achievement (2011- 2013);Initial training of helping professionals and trainers Identities (2011-2013); Sciences and Engineering in Portuguese language: video and interaction”( 2013); “Impact and effects of external evaluation”(2012-2014). Within one of these projects entitled Educational challenges in Portugal and Brazil, which was a research project with three Brazilian Universities (partnership CAPES FCT), in 2010, I did a mobility. I coordinated two research projects: " Metaphors in Higher Education"(2011-2012) and “The use of synchronous devices to access and improve learning”(2012-2013). I am member of a COST network concerning New Materialisms - ISH1307 (ongoing from 2014-2018). I have been involved in several scientific committees of international events such as a Spring School of EERA Network 3 (2012); IX Congresso Luso Brasileiro de Estudos Curriculares (2010) VII Congresso IberoAmericano de Docência Universitária (2012); II CAIR - II Conference on Applied Interculturality Research (2012);IV Colóquio Internacional – Grupos Profissionais – Educação, Trabalho e Conhecimento (2012) and II Colóquio Luso Brasileiro de Trabalho Docente (2013). I belong to the scientific board of two educational journals – Millenium and Momento (Brasil) and performed several reviewer tasks to some international journals as Studies in Higher Education; International Online Journal of Educational Studies and Educação Sociedade e Culturas. I supervised four research fellowships; two master students and I am, presently, co-supervisor of a PhD included in the same area of Higher Education Pedagogy.
