Biography

I am an agricultural science and development Professor with more than 25 years' research and management experience across several countries of the world. As an expert and acknowledged research leader, I have vast research and industry experience on seed systems, agricultural innovations and enterprise development, value chain analysis, research management, and agricultural policy dialogue. My research focus has been on improving crop productivity through seed technologies, genetic resources conservation and enhancement, and the impact of climate change on food security. I am solidly endowed with a vital network of experts in the agricultural research for development fraternity. Among several programmes that I am currently leading are (i) institutional strengthening programmes for the mentorship of early career researchers under the Climate Impacts Research Capacity and Leadership Enhancement for sub-Saharan Africa Programme (CIRCLE) (ii) exploring the nexus between agriculture and artisanal mining, and (iii) improving productivity of under-utilized plant species for food security. I have participated in several national and continental agricultural policy dialogues and regularly facilitates national stakeholders' meetings on seed sector development, improving crop productivity and increasing farmers' income. I have also managed several agricultural projects for national, regional and international organizations like the Federal Ministries of Environment and of Agriculture; West and Central African Council for Research and Development (CORAF/WECARD), the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and Winrock International/United States Agency for International Development (USAID). I consult regularly for agricultural development agencies, non-governmental organizations, seed companies and regulatory authorities. I have trained more than 20 master, doctoral, and postdoctoral students. I am fluent in Yoruba, English and German and currently learning French to improve my basic knowledge of the language.
