Miquel Valls has a B.A. in Geography by the Universitat de Lleida (UdL). He is in possession of a Master's Degree in Demography (UAB), with a study on Local sources for demographic information in Catalonia. An application to the area of Berguedà, He belongs to the staff of the UAB as research technician and has recently enrolled in the Doctorate Programme in Demography with a projected thesis on "The “llibres d’esposalles” of the cathedral of Barcelona: mirror of the demographic, territorial and social transformations, 1720-1880", under the supervision of the PI Anna Cabré. He has experience in working in Historical Demography, as he was a close collaborator of Prof. Àngels Torrents in the production of an inventory of Parish Archives in Catalonia. He contributed in the completion of the project after the untimely death of Prof. Torrents in 2004. She was also the supervisor of his Master's research. Miquel Valls is also experienced in the use and management of large databases, having worked for several years in the European projects of the series Integrated Census Microdata (Coordinating, Disseminating Harmonizing), headed successively by A. Cabré and A. Esteve. He has been teaching Sources for demographic information for several years to graduate students in Demography.
