I'm an associate professor at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) in Barcelona. I'm the director of the master degree in Specialized Translation. I'm teaching subjects related to translation technologies and natural language processing. I hold a PhD in Linguistics, a BA in Slavonic Philology, a BS in Telecommunication Engineering and a MS in Free Software.
I'm involved in several research projects related to Computational Linguistics applied to Translation and Language Learning.
The SKATeR (Scenario Knowledge Acquisition by Textual Reading) consists in advancing the state-of-the-art in the integration of textual processing, semantic interpretation, inference and reasoning, detection and generalization of events, scenario induction and its exploitation in a number of advanced content-based domain applications. In this project I'm in the Working Package Knowledge Acquisition and Integration. The main objective of this working package is to develop a new version of the Multilingual Central Repository (MCR 3.0) that will integrate the knowledge of Spanish, Basque, Catalan and Galician linked to the last version of the English WordNet. Furthermore, we will develop algorithms for acquiring resources and encompassing modules needed for semantic entailment and equivalence between instances of entities The SKATeR project is funded by the Spanish Ministry of Science and Innovation.
I'm also involved in the project InLéctor (http://inlector.wordpress.com), a project held at the Universitat Oberta de Catalunya (UOC) by the Language Processing Group aiming to create freely available bilingual ebooks for language learners. The project also aims to add audio links containing the human reading of the works and automatic sense tagging will allow to construct bilingual dictionaries for each work and for each level of knowledge of the source language.
