I am Dr. RAMON J. BATALLA, Ph.D. in Geography, Senior Lecturer in Physical Geography and Head of the Fluvial Dynamics Research Group –RIUS at the Department of Environment and Soil Sciences, University of Lleida, Catalonia, Spain. I am also Head of the Hydrological Processes Section at the Catalan Institute for Water Research, and researcher in Hydrology at the Forest Science Centre of Catalonia. I am a FLUVIAL GEOMORPHOLOGIST that develops research in the fields of monitoring and modelling fluvial processes, especially sediment transport in alluvial channels, human interferences on river processes, flood-risk assessment, sediment management in regulated rivers, fluvial hydrology, river restoration, and Eco-Geomorphology. I have participated and lead funded competitive projects and research contracts, at a national and international level. I have been involved in research and teaching on Fluvial Hydrology and Geomorphology for twenty-three years, starting at the University of Barcelona (1990-1994), and during research leaves at the Freie Universität Berlin (1995-1996), University of California, Berkeley (2000 and 2001), and for short periods in several universities of Europe and North America. I have published over a hundred original research articles in peer-reviewed international and national journals, and have edited more than 30 book chapters and books. I have been involved (as PI and/or participant) in more than 25 independent research projects funded, between others, by the Spanish Ministry of Science, the European Union, the NERC Natural Environment Research Council (UK) and the DGF Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (Germany). I serve as a member of the Editorial board of the international journals Zeitschrift für Geomorphology and the Journal of Soils and Sediments. Between 2008 and 2010 I acted as Vice-President of the Spanish Geomorphological Society.
