I am a highly engaged, experienced and credible academic leader, educator and researcher. I am also highly visible professionally, aligned to strong and positive relationships with multiple stakeholders for HE and Health, including policy-makers and politicians.
I was appointed a Principal Fellow of the Higher Education Academy UK in 2015. In 2018 I was identified in a list of the top-10 education-focused academics in Australia, in my field. My current research interests include: 'expanding conceptions of scholarship and impact in Higher Education'; 'Clinical Leadership'; as well as projects in Inter-Professional Education such as identifying 'Signature Pedagogies' and 'Threshold Learning Concepts' in Health-care disciplines.
I am a strategic, performance-oriented academic leader, with >15 years’ experience in HE leadership roles which has led to my possessing a clear understanding of the machinery of individual universities and the broader education sector. I am an effective builder of academic systems and teams. I had almost a decade of experience as a Dean leading a multidisciplinary faculty with >150 staff; >2900 students. Subsequently, I ran the largest Nursing School in Australia (> 8,000 students across 5 campuses, across 3 states and a territory) In both cases, I managed budgets >$20 million pa whilst achieving excellent educational and research outcomes, alongside a significant equity agenda.
I have significant experience of intra and inter-institutional change facilitation, nationally and internationally. This culminated in my secondment(s) to the Australian Commonwealth Government's Office for Learning and Teaching in 2013 and 2016, to develop and run institutional change programmes across the Australian and UK HE sectors.
I have a sustained track record of leadership in curriculum innovation and redesign, internationalisation and research; as well as in Institutional and Professional Course Accreditation.
