Dr. Jaume Sanz received his Degree in Physics (Earth and Cosmos) in 1982 and his PhD in Physics (Galactic Dynamics) in 1987, both from the University of Barcelona, Spain.
Since 1983, he is teaching in the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC) in Barcelona, in the Department of Applied Mathematics IV,being granted tenure and promoted to Associate Professor in 1988. He received the accreditation for Full Professor by the Spanish National Agency for Quality Assessment and Accreditation (ANECA) in 2011, and by the Catalan University Quality Assurance Agency (AQU) in 2010.
His current research interests are in the area of GNSS data processing algorithms, GNSS ionospheric sounding, Satellite and Ground Based Augmentation Systems (SBAS and GBAS), and High Accuracy GNSS Navigation. This last topic is one of the main research topics of the gAGE/UPC group, where new algorithms for Wide Area High Accuracy Navigation are being developed and tested, leading to the Wide Area RTK (WARTK) and the Fast-Precise Point Positioning (Fast-PPP) techniques. Initially such techniques were targeting to GPS (2-frequency) and afterwards were extended to GALILEO and GPS-III (3-frequencies) systems.
He has published more than 70 papers in peer-reviewed journals (61 JCR and 26 of them in the 1rst quartile of JCR impact factor) and more than 200 works in meeting proceedings, with three best paper awards from the US Institute of Navigation. He is co-author of 5 patents on GNSS (2 international linked to WARTK and F-PPP techniques, with 12 associated entries) and four books on GNSS Data Processing. The last one, with two volumes, commissioned and published by the European Space Agency (ESA). He has been participating in 80 R&D projects (46 international and 34 nationals) being Principal Investigator in 40 of them.
As a result of the gAGE/UPC research group activities in GNSS, he co-founded the spin-off company gAGE-NAV S.L., in 2009.
