Herbert H. Tsang (PEng, PhD) is Director of Applied Research Lab and his research focus is in applying computational algorithms and technologies to solve real-world problems. His ongoing interests are in bioinformatics, computational intelligence, evolutionary computation, mobile application, optimization, scientific visualization, and technology for education. Current research projects include: 1) RNA secondary structure design and prediction, 2) mobile computation, 3) scientific visualization, 4) agent-based evolutionary algorithms for complex system modeling, and 5) educational technology. With his students and collaborators, Dr. Tsang’s research is performed under a highly collaborative team environment with members coming from a variety of backgrounds, such as engineers, computer scientists, molecular biologists, chemists, bioinformaticians, and musicians. They all work closely together to solve scientific problems and seek new understanding to the world around us. Dr. Tsang's research was supported by the Natural Sciences and Engineering Research Council of Canada (NSERC) and Mitacs.
