Maria da Piedade Brandão graduated in 1988 in Radiotherapy and in Educational Sciences in 1996.
She finished the Master’s in Public Health (2001) in the Medical School of Porto University and the
PhD in Health Sciences (2010) in the University of Aveiro.
She is Adjunct Professor at School of Health Sciences at University of Aveiro since 2010 and
Researcher in the field of Gerontology and Epidemiology.
Brandão is currently the Director of Population Studies Center and the Director of the Master
in Gerontology at University of Aveiro.
Her main research areas are public health, predominantly in epidemiology of ageing, cardiovascular
diseases and non-communicable diseases.
She is member and the main contact point in Portugal of the ‘Health Promoting Universities, Europe’
She has been involved in the EASY-Care program since 2010 and she is the Contact Point in
