Biography
Song Gang is Associate Professor in Chinese History at the University of Hong Kong. He has broad interests in Chinese-Western cultural encounters in history, while his research focuses on Catholic Christianity in late imperial China. The projects that he works on include Jesuit-Confucian dialogues, early Chinese Marian culture, Ming-Qing Catholic Bible translations, and Sino-Western cartographic exchanges in the 17th and the 18th centuries.
Dr. Song is the author of Giulio Aleni, Kouduo richao, and Christian-Confucian Dialogism in Late Ming Fujian (Routledge, 2018). He also edited two volumes: Reshaping the Boundaries: The Christian Intersection of China and the West in the Modern Era (HKUP, 2016), and 傳播、書寫與想像:明清文化視野中的西方 (Transmission, Writing, and Imagination: The West in Late Imperial Chinese Culture, FUP, 2019).
Dr. Song is the Chief Editor of the HKU Journal of Chinese Studies (formerly Journal of Oriental Studies), an established bi-lingual academic journal publishing peer-reviewed articles in a wide range of humanistic areas in Chinese studies.
