Hong-Yu OU received his B.Sc. in Food Engineering from Nanjing Agricultural University, China in 1997. In 2001, he received his M.Sc. in Fermentation Engineering, under the direction of Prof. Shiru JIA, from Tianjin University of Science & Technology. He received his Ph.D. in Bioinformatics in 2004, under the direction of Prof. Chun-Ting ZHANG, from Tianjin University, China. For his post-doctoral training, he worked on the comparative genomics of bacterial pathogens in the Department of Infection, Immunity and Inflammation at the University of Leicester, UK. In 2006, he joined the faculty of the School of Life Sciences & Biotechnology at Shanghai Jiaotong University as an Associate Professor and then became a Professor of Microbiology in 2012. His main research interests are microbial bioinformatics and focus on identification and characterization of the mobile genomes of Klebsiella pneumoniae and other bacterial pathogens, involved into the mechanisms of pathogenesis, antibiotic resistance and evolution.
