Graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Porto (FFUP), post-graduated Master degree in Quality Control - Scientific Area in Drug Substances and Medicinal Plants at FFUP, and PhD in Toxicology at FFUP. Present research interests: 1. Studies on the mechanisms underlying the toxicity of drugs of abuse using in vitro cellular systems and in vivo studies; 2.Metabolomics in cancer biomarker discovery; 3.Toxicological studies using human normal and cancer renal primary cell cultures from surgical specimens; and 4. Evaluation of in vitro antioxidant and antitumoral activity of plant extracts. Author or co-author of over 60 papers in international scientific periodicals and of 7 book chapters. Reviewer for several national and international journals related to the field of Toxicology, Pharmacology and Oncology. Adviser or co-adviser of 6 PhD thesis and several master and graduation thesis. Collaboration in Funded Projects FCT-POCTI/FCB/36099/1999, FCT-POCTI/SAU-OBS/55849/2004, FCT-PTDC/SAU-OSM/101437/2008 and NORTE-01-0145-FEDER-000024.
