Prof. Dr. Nenad Đ. Zrnić was born in 1966 in Belgrade, where he finished elementary and mathematical high school. He graduated from the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade in 1992, where he defended his magister thesis in 1996 and his doctorate in 2005, for which he received the Annual prize of Belgrade Chamber of Commerce; 2005 was elected assistant professor at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering for the scientific field machinery, 2009, associate professor in 2013 and full professor. He speaks English and French, and uses German. He is married to Vesna, Dipl. Ing., and they have a son, George, a high school pupil.
Since 2012, he is the Vice Dean for Academic Affairs at the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering in Belgrade, and since 2015, Vice Dean for International Cooperation and member of HERE team. He is president of the Executive Board of the Association of Graduate Mechanical Engineers of Serbia. He is chairman of the Organizing and Scientific Committees of international conferences: MHCL 2006, 2009 and 2012, held in Belgrade, as well as MHCL in 2015, held in Vienna in cooperation with TU Wien.
He is the author of the curriculum of the subjects taught at different study programs at FME: BSc (Fundamentals of material handling equipment), MSc (Material handling and conveying machines, Design of cranes, Ecodesign – Sustainable product development), and PhD (Dynamics of material handling machines and Ecodesign and sustainable logistics). Subject Ecodesign is developed through TEMPUS project and represents a complete novelty compared to the previous cases at university level in Serbia and the region. He formed the Laboratory for logistics and eco-design. He was a supervisor of over 80 MSc theses, 1 PhD dissertation, 1 Magister thesis, and currently he is a supervisor of 3 ongoing PhD dissertations in the final stage. He was a visiting professor at the University of Montenegro, Faculty of Maritime Studies in Kotor (2009-2011). He is the author of 2 university textbooks.
He has excellent multi-year scientific cooperation with the TU Vienna (Institute for engineering design and technical logistics) where he spent a total of 7 months as a visiting researcher. He is a member of several international scientific societies and their bodies: Europäischen Konferenz der Professoren des Fachkreises Foerdertechnik, IFToMM Technical Committee for Transportation Machinery, IFToMM Permanent Commission for History of Mechanism and Machine Science. He was an invited lecturer at foreign universities in Italy - Brescia in 2011 and Greece - Patras, 2013.
His scientific research work involves the dynamics, strength, integrity and redesign of material handling, conveying and mining machines, intralogistics and logistics systems, eco-design and sustainable logistics, LCA analysis. He has published five chapters in books published by the world's leading publishers (Springer), 28 papers in international journals (20 of them on the SCI list), 44 papers in journals of national significance, two monographs of national significance (1 in English). He presented 91 papers at international conferences (including 5 invited lectures) and 32 papers at national conferences. According to data from Scopus he has got a total of 229 citations, of which 111 straight quotes.
He is author of 7 technical and development solutions (M80), he managed and participated in the realization of 36 projects performed for the purpose of industry, 132 elaborations of as-built design, as well as 26 studies of limited circulation and expertise. He participated in the implementation of 9 projects financed by Serbian Ministry of education, science and technological development, as well as in 7 international projects, in 1 among them he was a project manager, 1 is FP7 project NEWS, and in international tender he was chosen as the executor of the work package for Serbia WP3 Census of logistic and multimodal platforms in Serbia within the project WATERMODE - Transnational Network for the Promotion of the Water-Ground Multimodal Transport. He is the technical expert in Eureka Eurostars program and he was an external expert for FP7 project Spider Plus (2013-2015). For the results of his engineering work, he was awarded with a group of authors for the Annual prize of Belgrade Chamber of Commerce for the best technical innovation in 2009.
