Biography

- Oleksandr Tkach (born 1976) is Auxiliary Researcher of Materials and Ceramic Engineering Department at the University of Aveiro, CICECO – Aveiro Institute of Materials, the largest Materials Science Institute in Portugal. Oleksandr is a member of the European Ceramic Society. - Oleksandr Tkach graduated in Microelectronics and Semiconductor Devices by the National Technical University of Ukraine “Kyiv Polytechnic Institute” in June 1999, investigating nanocrystalline silicon for optoelectronic applications. In September 2005 he got his Ph.D. in Materials Science and Engineering from the University of Aveiro, Portugal, working on strontium titanate based ceramics for tunable device applications (supervisors Prof. Paula M. Vilarinho and Dr. Andrei L. Kholkine). This was followed by a 1.5 year post- doctoral fellow (dielectric spectroscopy of strontium titanate-based materials) in the same group. He has been post-doctoral fellow by Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (FCT) in University of Porto, Portugal, since June 2007, working on alkali tantalates and other perovskite ceramics and thin films. Then from December 2012, he got post-doc contract at the Johannes Gutenberg University of Mainz, Germany, investigating artificial multiferroic heterostructures within EU FP7 project IFOX. In 2014 he was promoted to Auxiliary Researcher at the University of Aveiro, CICECO. - Oleksandr (Alexander) Tkach has published 1 book chapter and 66 SCI papers in journals, including Nature Physics, Advanced Functional Materials, Chemistry of Materials and Physical Review Letters, with ca. 1,000 citations (h-index 19). He has participated in 5 projects (2 European) besides 2 international networks, 2 cooperation actions, and 2 bilateral projects. Currently, he is coordinating a project “Multifunctional all-oxide nanostructures for electronic applications”. He has coordinated 2 post-docs and supervised 2 Master students. He has been an organising committee member of 3 scientific meetings and a scientific committee member of 6th International Advances in Applied Physics and Materials Science Congress & Exhibition APMAS 2016, giving an invited talk there. He has been a referee for the leading journals in Materials Science, Physics and Chemistry, such as Advanced Materials, Advanced Functional Materials, Advanced Electronic Materials, Scientific Reports, Materials, Crystals, Ferroelectrics, Microscopy and Microanalysis, Materials Science and Engineering B, Journal of Alloys and Compounds, Physica Status Solidi - Rapid Research Letters, Journal of Physics: Condensed Matter, Journal of Physics D: Applied Physics, Materials Chemistry and Physics, Arabian Journal of Chemistry. - SCIENTIFIC INTERESTS. During the post-doc activity, Dr. Tkach studied SrTiO3 doped with Mg, Mn, Ca, Ba, Cr, Sc, La, Y, Gd, and Bi; undoped and Li-doped KTaO3, and undoped NaTaO3 in ceramics and polycrystalline thin film form. His recent interest is mainly related to strain-mediated magnetoelectric heterostructures, based on Ni or Fe3O4 films on (011) [PbMg1/3Nb2/3O3]0.68-[PbTiO3]0.32 piezoelectric substrates, as well as to lead-free piezoelectric K1/2Na1/2NbO3, graphene oxide derived materials and SrTiO3 doped with such donors as Dy and Nb. In overall, he is interested in the synthesis, structure and properties of polar dielectric and magnetoelectric perovskite ceramics, thin films and heterostructures as well as graphene oxide derived materials and composites for electronics and energy harvesting, being particularly strong in electroceramics preparation and characterisation. Recently, an interest is developed in the area of flash sintering.
