I have a PhD in Biomedical Sciences by the University of Coimbra (UC) and I am currently a postdoctoral fellow from the FCT developing research work at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology (CNC). After finishing my PhD I was granted with two post doc fellowships from FCT. At the beginning of my career I had 2 children which have impacted my scientific productivity. My research interests have been focused on the study of the molecular mechanisms of age-related neurodegenerative diseases, in particular Alzheimer´s disease (AD) in order to discover new therapeutic targets and strategies.
I am one of the inventors of an international patent application: “Peptide inhibitors of BACE1 for the treatment of neurological disorders” ( International publication number: WO2017/095250 A1).
Over the last 10 years I have been tutor of laboratory rotations in collaboration with several Master courses and PhD Programs at UC. Over the last 2 years I have supervised MSc and undergraduate students and research fellows. I have revised several scientific papers and research proposals for international institutions (Italian Ministry of Health and BRACE-Funding Research into Alzheimer’s (UK).
With the purpose of disseminating the work developed under the projects in which I have been involved I have been highly enrolled in scientific outreach activities namely, Brain Awareness Week, Ocupação científica dos jovens nas férias and Portuguese Science and Technology Week.
