After the study Chemistry at the Free University in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, Dr. Saskia van Hemert obtained her PhD in 2007 at the Wageningen University and Research centre, the Netherlands on the thesis “Gene expression profiling of chicken intestinal host responses”. Thereafter she had a postdoctoral fellowship at the Top Institute Food and Nutrition. Currently she is working as a senior scientist at Winclove Probiotics. In this position she is responsible for content of the research projects in different fields where probiotics and prebiotics can be applied, with a focus on the gut-brain axis. The research include in vitro research, mechanistic research and clinical trials. Her main fields of expertise are gut-brain axis, molecular host-microbe interactions and probiotics and intestinal health.
