João Ramalho-Santos is Associate Professor at the Department of Life Sciences, University of Coimbra, Portugal, where he concluded his Ph.D in Cell Biology in 1997. He was a post-doctoral fellow in Reproductive Biology at Oregon Health & Science University USA (1997-2000), a Visiting Scientist at University of Pittsburgh, USA (2003-2006) and a Fulbright Fellow at University of California San Francisco, USA (2009). He currently is the Head of the Biology of Reproduction and Stem Cells Group at the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology at the University of Coimbra where he works on the bioenergetics and metabolism of gametes and stem cells.
He is also Director of the Center for Neuroscience and Cell Biology.
He is Associate Editor of the Journals Reproduction and Human Reproduction, reviewer for over 30 journals and 6 agencies (Including FCT, Portugal, MRC, UK, and DFG, Germany). He is a former member of the National Ethics Council for the Life Sciences (CNECV)
