Juan Antonio Ortega (M’93) received the M.S. degree in telecommunication engineering and the Ph.D. degree in electronics from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC), Barcelona, Spain, in 1994 and 1997, respectively. In 1994, he joined the Department of Electronic Engineering, UPC, as a full-time Associate Lecturer, where he obtained a tenured position as an Associate Professor in 1998, has taught courses of microprocessors and signal processing since 1994, was with the Sensor Systems Group working in the areas of smart sensors, embedded systems, and signal conditioning, acquisition, and processing from 1994 to 2001, and has been with the Motion Control and Industrial Applications research group since 2001 working in the area of motor current signature analysis. His current research activities include motor diagnosis, signal acquisition, smart sensors, embedded systems, and remote laboratories. In the last years, he has participated in several Spanish- and European-funded research projects about these items.
