My name is Vladislav Remirovich Kuchma. I was born on August 3, 1951 in the North Caucasus. After finishing my secondary school in 1969, I entered the First Sechenov Moscow Medical Institute (at present called The First Sechenov Moscow Medical University under Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation). In 1975 I graduated with honors and enrolled in postgraduate school at the Department of Occupational Health. In 1978 I obtained a PhD in medical sciences, and in 1988 I obtained a Doctor of medical sciences in "hygiene" specialty, so I made my way from graduate student to professor (1989) at the Department of Occupational Health.
Since 1991, when I was elected a Head of the Department of Children and Adolescents Hygiene, I lead this Department. Since 1998 I serve as a Director of the Scientific and Research Institute of children and adolescents hygiene and health care being an integral part of the Federal State Budgetary Institution «Scientific Center of Children’s Health» under the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.
In 2011 I was elected a corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences.
I am the author and co-author of 18 monographs, 23 books, 12 textbooks for students and over 300 articles based on the results of scientific research. 10 Doctors and 24 PhD in medical sciences have been obtained under my guidance. I am the main external expert of the Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation in school medicine and children and adolescents hygiene, the National Coordinator of the Russian network of healthy schools, the chief editor of "Problems of School and university medicine and health", a member of the editorial boards of "Hygiene and Sanitation", "Preventive Medicine" "Current Pediatrics", "Russian Journal of Pediatrics", "Preventive and Clinical Medicine", "Reproductive health of children and adolescents" magazines.
I am also the Head of the Russian society of school and university medicine and health, a member of the Planning Committee of the European Healthy Schools network and a board member of the Russian Union of Pediatricians.
