Biography

Pierre Pinson is a Professor at DTU Elektro, Centre for Electric Power and Energy, also heading a group focusing on Energy Analytics & Markets. He holds a M.Sc. in Applied Mathematics (INSA Toulouse, France) and a Ph.D. in Energetics (Ecole des Mines de Paris, France). He has been a visiting researcher at the University of Oxford (Mathematical Institute), at the University of Washington (Dpt. of Statistics), as well as a consultant at the European Centre for Medium-range Weather Forecasts (ECMWF). His work is mainly related to the application of mathematical modeling and decision-making methods to the energy sector. The primary focus of this research is on easing the large scale integration of renewable energies into power systems and electricity markets, based on stochastic process modeling, forecasting, optimization and decision-making under uncertainty. Pierre Pinson has published a large number of manuscripts in high-profile scientific journals in various disciplines, e.g., the Quarterly Journal of the Royal Meteorological Society (meteorology and climate science); Statistical Science, Statistics and Computing, European Journal of Operational Research (statistics and operations research); various IEEE Transactions (electrical engineering and related topics); Applied Energy, Wind Energy (Energy), etc. He additionally is a regular contributing and invited speaker at various international conferences. He acts as Editor for the IEEE Transactions on Power Systems, Wind Energy, and the International Journal of Forecasting, which are leading journals in the field of power systems engineering, renewable energy and management sciences.
