Emilio Martínez Pañeda is a Research Associate at Norman Fleck's group at the University of Cambridge. Before, he was an H.C. Ørsted Fellow at the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). He obtained his B.Eng and M.Eng. in Industrial Engineering from the University of Oviedo (Spain) in 2011 and his M.Sc. in Structural Engineering from the University of Granada (Spain) in 2012. Emilio started his Ph.D. studies in 2013 after being awarded the University of Oviedo Pre-doctoral Fellowship. He worked on strain gradient plasticity modeling of damage and fracture supervised by Prof. C. Betegón and spent several research periods at DTU (host: C. Niordson), Cambridge (host: N. Fleck), UCSB (host: R.M. McMeeking) and Luxembourg (host: S. Bordas). His work on the mechanics of solids has been disseminated in numerous journal publications and has been recognized through several awards.
