João Almeida Lopes (JAL) graduated in Chemical Engineering in 1997 at the Technical University of Lisbon (TULisbon). He completed his PhD in Chemical Engineering in the area of chemometrics applied to the pharmaceutical industry in 2001 (TULisbon). He continued his research activity as Post Doc researcher at TULisbon. He joined the Associated Laboratory REQUIMTE at University of Porto in 2006 as Assistant Researcher in chemometrics and process spectroscopy. In 2006, he started Worldmetrics Solutions, a company for industrial implementation of advanced process analytical technology (PAT) solutions (www.worldmetrics.net/). JAL research activities are based on chemometrics and vibrational spectroscopy with analytical, microbiology and industrial applications. He started and coordinates the Chemometrics & Process Analytical Technology Research Unit at University of Porto (http://chemometricsandpat.wordpress.com/). He coordinated and participated in more than 35 funded projects of different topologies most in collaboration with industrial partners. He currently holds several R&D contracts with industrial companies (pharmaceutical and agrofood areas). He supervised several undergraduate, MSc students, PhD students and Postdoc researchers. He published more than 80 peer-reviewed publications in international journals and several book chapters. He lectured several invited communications in international conferences and symposia and co-authored more than 80 oral communications and 120 poster communications in international scientific conferences. He was President of the Portuguese Association of Science and Technology Researchers (www.anict.pt) (2012/2013). He's Assistant Professor of Pharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology at the Faculty of Pharmacy of University of Lisbon since 2014. JAL is member of the Steering Committee of the PAT/QbD network of the European Federation of Pharmaceutical Sciences (EUFEPS), Presidente of the General Assembly of the Portuguese Association of Science and Technology Researchers (ANICT), Vice-President of the Portuguese Society for Pharmaceutical Sciences, Member of the steering committee of the Voice of the Researchers Initiative and Member of the directive board of the Portuguese Association for Research and Respiratory Home Healthcare Services Providing (AEPCRD).
