Education: Vocational training in aeronautical engineering, studies in sociology and economics in Vienna and Freiburg/Germany 1969-74; M.A. 1974, PhD 1978, habilitation 1986 (U. of Vienna).
Professional experience in research institutions, social partners‘ organisations, Austrian and European advisory boards and funding agencies for RTDI, adult education and various Austrian universities (AAU Klagenfurt, U. of Natural Resources and Life Sciences, Universities of Technology in Graz and Vienna, U. of Vienna) and abroad (in Germany, Greece, Russia, UK). Participation in EU Framework Programmes since 1991. 1998-2003 Secretary General of the International Forum on Work, Information Society and Employment; 2001-05 President of the Austrian Sociological Association. Initiator (2011) and Chairman of the European School of Social Innovation (ESSI). Since 2004 member of the Jury awarding ‘SozialMarie’, the annual international Social Innovation Prize of Austria (covering also Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Slovenia and Croatia).
