A researcher with a fascination for plants. Since my Biology studies at the University of the Basque Country, I developed a strong interest for plant physiology and optics. My fascination took me to spend a couple of years at a laboratory of plant physiology, and ultimately brought me to the University of Helsinki in Finland, where I characterise dynamics in biochemical and biophysical mechanisms uncoupling optical data from photosynthetic gas exchange data of boreal trees. The methodologies I use comprise: spectroradiometric techniques to characterise leaf reflectance/transmittance/absorption spectra and vegetation indices; 77K and pulse-amplitude-modulated chlorophyll fluorometry; gas exchange measurements based on infra-red gas analysis; pigment extraction and characterisation by spectrophotometry and high-performance liquid chromatography; and protein extraction and characterisation by western immunoblotting.
