He graduated with a B.Sc. degree at Engineering Institute of Coimbra (ISEC) in Electrical Engineering (1994). He graduated with a Teaching Licensure (B.Sc. plus 2 years) at the University of Porto in Electrical Engineering (1996). He concluded the M.Sc. degree in Electrical Engineering, at the University of Porto (FEUP), tutored by Professor Martins de Carvalho and Professor J. A. Tenreiro Machado of the Electrical Engineering of the University of Porto (1999). He obtained the Ph.D. degree in Electrical Engineering at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (UTAD), tutored by Professor J. A. Tenreiro Machado of the Engineering Institute of Porto (ISEP) and Professor José Boaventura Cunha of the University of Trás-os-Montes e Alto Douro (2006).
Since 1997 he works at ISEC and he is currently a Professor in the Department of Electrical Engineering (DEE).
He was the President of ISEC since 2010 until 2013 and vice President of IPC since 2013 until 2017. Professor of robotic systems, control, biosensors and he is member of the research center GECAD and INESC TEC (Porto).
