Biography
José das Neves is Assistant Researcher at i3S/INEB since 2019. He graduated in Pharmaceutical Sciences (2003) and holds a MSc in Pharmaceutical Technology (2007) and a PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences (2013) from the University of Porto, Portugal. Prior to engaging in a full-time research career, he gained experience in drug therapeutics as a Pharmacist at the Hospital Geral de Sto. António, Portugal (2004-2009). José was a visiting PhD student at Northeastern University (USA) in 2009-2010 and at the Institute of Tropical Medicine (Belgium) in 2010. After completing his PhD, he moved to INEB as a Postdoc/Junior Researcher (2014-2019). His broad research interest includes nanomedicine, mucosal drug delivery and biomaterials. José's current research focuses specifically on the development of drug delivery strategies for the prevention or treatment of sexually transmitted infections and lower female genital tract diseases. As of December 2019, he is the author of 64 peer-reviewed articles, 11 book chapters, 67 presentations at scientific meetings and 1 international patent. He is the co-Editor of 4 scientific books, Associate Editor of Frontiers in Pharmacology (Frontiers Media), and Editorial Board member of PLOS ONE (Public Library of Science), Pharmaceutics (MDPI), Nanomaterials (MDPI), Drug Delivery Letters (Bentham Science) and 4Open (EDP Sciences). He is also an active collaborator of the Global Burden of Disease Study, contributing to 30 peer-reviewed articles from this international consortium.
