José Luis Martí Ferriol got his bachelor’s degree on Chemistry Sciences (speciality of Industrial Chemistry) in the University of Valencia in 1985. For more than 21 years, he combined his job in chemical process production companies with his studies on Translation and Interpreting: he got his bachelor’s degree (cum laude) in the Universitat Jaume I of Castellón in 1998 and got his PhD on Audiovisual Translation in the same university in 2006 (PhD cum laude, 2007). In July 2007, he entered as full-time researcher in the Universitat Jaume I, where he practises as a lecturer since September 2009.
His research focuses mainly on audiovisual translation and on creating software tools that automate the professional conventions of dubbing and calculate reading speeds for subtitling. To date in this field, his most remarkable publications are the books Cine independiente y traducción (Tirant Lo Blanch, Valencia, 2010) and El método de traducción: doblaje y subtitulación frente a frente (Publicacions de la Universitat Jaume I, 2013), as well as several contributions to national and international journals. Likewise, he lectures in audiovisual translation and in scientific and technical translation, both at Degree and Master’s levels (Master of Medical Translation at Universitat Jaume I).
