Alexandra Correia is Associate Professor since 2012 in Tourism Studies (UN-WTO Tedqual certified) at the Polytechnic Institute of Viana do Castelo, Portugal, and lecturer since 2002. She is currently the Course Leader of the Master´s in Innovative Tourism Development and has participated in the curriculum development of several Tourism courses at IPVC, namely the Degree in Tourism, M.A. in Innovative Tourism Development, and Vocational. Alexandra holds a Ph.D. from Bournemouth University (UK) and her thesis was based on “An examination of inter-business cooperation by wine and tourism small and medium sized businesses in the Douro Valley of Portugal”.
In the last years, she has been involved in projects with local private and public organisations and has also presented papers in national and international conferences, been member of scientific committees for conferences and seminars and has a number of publications in her areas of interest, which include wine tourism, inter- business cooperation, tourism marketing with a special emphasis on experiential marketing, Social Media in Tourism.She has experience in tourism research and education, and internships supervision and she has lectured abroad under EU Erasmus scheme. In addition, she has experience in the hospitality sector.
As a lecturer, she is responsible for units such Tourism Markets and Strategic Tourism Marketing, with special emphasis being placed Social Media Marketing. A project-based approach is adopted with students developing a social media plan for Small Tourism Enterprises.
