Lieven joined IFPRI in 2014 as a research fellow in the Poverty Health and Nutrition Division. Previously, he was a post-doctoral fellow at Ghent University and visiting scientist at the Institute of Tropical Medicine Antwerp (Belgium). He is a nutrition epidemiologist with expertise in maternal in child malnutrition in developing countries. He conducted or contributed to several maternal and child nutrition intervention studies in Burkina Faso, Mali, Ethiopia, Chad, Somalia and Ecuador.
Lieven holds a PhD in Applied Biological Sciences from Ghent University (Belgium) and an MSc in Bioscience Engineering (major food sciences) from Ghent University.
Research interests include dietary intake assessment, prenatal nutrition interventions, child malnutrition prevention and treatment strategies.
