Biography

Susana Alves holds a PhD in Veterinary Sciences from ICBAS-University of Porto obtained in 2011. Her thesis was focused on studying the ruminant lipid nutrition and metabolism, particular on the development and application of methodologies for fatty acid analysis. This work was conducted at INIAV-Santarém, with a short stay (3 months in 2009) at Cornell University (USA). In January of 2012 she started to work at Laboratory of Animal Production Systems of the CIISA-Faculty of Veterinary Medicine (University of Lisbon) as a post-doc research fellow. In 2014, she was awarded with a Short Term Scientific Mission by the European Cooperation in Science and Technology to spend a period at Lipidomic Research Facility Lab in the University of the Highlands and Islands (UK). Since 2006, Susana published more than 70 papers in international peer review journals. She has also published 2 book chapters and more than 80 abstracts in Congress Proceedings. Her research interests are focused on the following topics: Ruminant lipid nutrition and metabolism, Lipidomics, Rumen microbiome, Lipid metabolic pathways, Bacterial membrane lipids, Characterization of lipids using advanced instrumental techniques.
