I obtained a five-year (M.Sc.) Degree in Environment and Land Management Engineering at the University of Catania (Italy), in 2007. Later, in 2012, I was titled as PhD in Geotechnical Engineering at University of Catania. Since 2013, I have carried out research under several collaboration contracts and scholarships, mainly at the Universities of Catania and Foggia (Italy). Moreover, in the year 2013-2014, I was a postdoctoral fellow at the University of Foggia for collaboration to the research activity provided by the 7FP European project Strategic and Technological Advancement in Research on Agroenergy (STAR*Agroenergy). My commitment within the project was to perform application of Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) and related tools in the biomass supply chain for energy generation.
From Sept 2016 to Sept 2017, I worked under a coordinated and continuous collaboration (co.co.co) contract at the Department of the Sciences of Agriculture, Food and Environment of University of Foggia for assessing the environmental sustainability of fresh-cut salad through application of LCA and other related tools.
From Nov 2017 to date and until Nov 2018, I am working under a co.co.co contract at the Department of Economics of University of Foggia for performing environmental assessments of agro-food supply chains with special regard to management of the generated waste.
I am also a PhD student in Civil Infrastructures for the Territory at the Faculty of Engineering and Architecture of the "Kore" University of Enna (Italy).
On July 2017, I obtained the National Qualification for Associate Professor for the Commodity Sciences sector, according to the Italian university and research framework.
My research activities and interests are focussed upon the development of energy, environmental and economic assessments in the fields of: industrial and environmental engineering; commodity sciences; buildings; biomass and bioenergy; agriculture and food production; and food packaging.
Within those themes, since 2013 I have authored and co-authored something like fifty publications in international journals, book chapters and conference proceedings: most of them are indexed by Scopus and/or WoS.
I have experienced teaching in different occasions like University and PhD courses, as well as private specialisation courses. On March 2016, I delivered under invitation the presentation “Assessing agro-biogas supply chains from a life cycle GHG-emission perspective: An experience in Southern Italy”, at the “Bioeconomy workshop – Future trade-offs between alternative biomass resources” that was organised within the “UFZ EnergyDays 2016”, Helmholtz Centre for Environmental Resources, Leipzig (Germany).
I am currently a member of the scientific board of a series of international journals like Technical Issues (ISSN: 2392-3954); Management (ISSN: 1429-9321); and The Open Construction & Technology Journal (ISSN: 1874-8368).
Finally, since Dec 2015 I have been the Managing Guest Editor of the Journal of Cleaner Production (ISSN: 0959-6526) for a special volume regarding bio-economy and related aspects and fields. Recently I have started leading the implementation and development of a special issue in the Resources Conservation & Recycling journal on sustainability issues of by-product and waste management systems to produce building material commodities.
