Viral Shah, MD is currently an Assistant Professor of Pediatrics and Medicine at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes at the University of Colorado Anschutz Campus. Besides being passionate about caring for patients with type 1 diabetes, he is also interested in clinical research. He is well published with more than 70 publications in peer- reviewed scientific journals. His current area of research is to investigate the use of newer therapies and technologies for better glucose control in people with type 1 diabetes. Currently, he is the local principle investigator for a number of projects funded by Jaeb Center for Health Research (T1D Exchange program).
He is also interested in investigating bone health in people with type 1 diabetes. He recently published a meta-analysis of observational studies showing a four fold higher risk for major osteoporotic fractures in people with type 1 diabetes. He was recently awarded a grant by the Center for Women’s Health and Research to evaluate bone and vascular health in postmenopausal women with type 1 diabetes.
