Amelia Almeida is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering of Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST), Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal. She has a PhD in Materials Engineering from Universidade Tecnica de Lisboa and develops her research activity in the Laser-Assisted Synthesis and Processing Group of CeFEMA - Center of Physics and Engineering of Advanced Materials (http://cefema.tecnico.ulisboa.pt).
She is a Professor of Materials Science, Phase Transformations and Materials Selection and Design and has considerable experience in the supervision of MSc and PhD students.
Her research interests are laser surface modification, laser-assisted synthesis of advanced materials, rapid manufacturing, new alloys for biomedical applications, micro and nanocomposite materials, structure and properties of laser processed materials, microstructural characterization by electron microscopy, mechanical and tribological behaviour of materials.
Since 2010 she coordinates at IST the International PhD Program IDS-FunMat.
In 2015-2017 she coordinated the Bachelor's and the Master's Degrees courses in Materials Engineering at IST, Universidade de Lisboa, Portugal.
Since 2015 she is Director of MicroLab - Electron Microscopy Laboratory facility of Instituto Superior Técnico, Universidade de Lisboa.
