Biography
Amelia Almeida is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Chemical Engineering of Instituto Superior Tecnico (IST), Technical University of Lisbon, Portugal. She has a Ph.D. in Materials Engineering from the Technical University of Lisbon and develops her research activity in the Materials Processing and Design Group of ICEMS-Institute of Science and Engineering of Materials and Surfaces.
She is a Professor of Materials Science and Materials Selection and Design and has considerable experience in the supervision of MSC and PhD students.
Her research interests are laser surface modification, laser-assisted synthesis of advanced materials, rapid manufacturing, new alloys for biomedical applications, micro and nanocomposite materials, structure and properties of laser processed materials, microstructural characterization by electron microscopy, mechanical and tribological behaviour of materials.
Since 2010 she coordinates at IST the International Program IDS-FunMat.
