Biography
Coordinator of the Graduate Program in Arts and Assistant Professor at the Department of Arts at UNESP (Universidade Estadual Paulista “Júlio de Mesquita Filho”), in São Paulo, Wânia Storolli is committed to interdisciplinar research and vocal experimental performance. PhD in Music at the USP (Universidade de São Paulo) with the thesis “Movement, Breathing and Singing: the performance of the body in musical creation” (2009), research sponsered by FAPESP. She holds a Master's degree in Musicology (2004), a Bachelor's Degree in Piano (1989), a Bachelor's Degree in Artistic Education with a Qualification in Music (1986) and Specialization in Rhythmic, Improvisation and Movement by the Hochschule der Künste Berlin, Germany. She is dedicated to the development of strategies of artistic creation, researching the relations between voice and performance. Wânia Storolli developed the practice of Movement, Breathing and Singing based on Ilse Middendorf 's Breathexperience and other bodily practices, a process of experimentation that integrates voice research and music creation processes that are guided by the body - voice relationship. Since 2012 she coordinates the Vocal Improvisation and Experimentation Laboratory (L.I.V.E.). With this group she has developed performances and sound interventions based on the investigation of the vocal resources. She has experience as researcher in the area of Music and Performance Studies, with emphasis on the processes of vocal creation, working mainly on the following themes: singing, movement, Breathing Experience, vocal expression, body awareness, cognition, performance theories and performativity of the voice.
