Biography
María Isabel (Maricha) Martinez Sosa is a researcher, educator, and entrepreneur from the Dominican Republic with more than 15 years of experience in visual and written communication and a focus on digital communication, culture, education, sustainable development, and innovation. She is the founder of Umami Creadores, Quemashago.com, and Cultoural.com.
She has obtained the following academic degrees:
· Ph.D. in Communication and Cultural Industries, Universitat Politècnica de València (Spain).
· Postgraduate Studies in Higher Education, Universidad Católica Santo Domingo.
· Master's Degree in Advertising, Universidad Antonio de Nebrija.
· Bachelor in Graphic Design, Universidad Apec.
During her career, she has received several awards and recognitions, such as:
· Pasaporte Abierto International Touristic Journalism Award (in 2020 and 2022)
· Epifanio Lantigua National Touristic Journalism Award of the Dominican Republic (in 2019 and 2021)
· Young Leaders of the Americas Initiative - YLAI 2016 Professional Fellowship, from the Department of State of the United States of America.
As an Educator, she has designed and taught university courses in areas such as Creativity and Critical Thinking, Effective Communication, Innovative Mindset, Thought Process, Visual Communication, and Content Creation for Businesses.
As a photographer, her work has been part of several collective exhibits, has been published in her home country's magazines and newspapers, and one of her images was chosen as the cover for the Dominican Republic's Ministry of Women and the European Union's 2020 calendar.
In her research, Maricha approaches topics such as cultural and language integration in migrant populations, female empowerment, gastronomic heritage and technology, sustainable tourism, brand design, and visual communication.
