Dr Rosemary Nkemdilim Ogu, MB.BS, FWACS, FMCOG, FICS, Member of Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria (MWAN) Technical Working Group & President, MWAN Rivers State Branch, is a Consultant Obstetrician/Gynaecologist and Senior Lecturer at the University of Port Harcourt. She graduated (MB.BS) with distinction from the University of Benin, Benin City, Nigeria, in 1999. Her residency training in Obstetrics and Gynaecology was at the University of Port Harcourt Teaching Hospital from 2003 to 2008, qualifying with the fellowship of both the West African College of Surgeons and the National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria (FWACS, FMCOG). She has special research interest in the areas of Sexual/Reproductive Health & Non-Communicable Diseases. She is the Secretary of the World Health Organisation/Federal Ministry of Health Maternal Newborn Child Health Implementation Research Team for the reduction of Maternal & Perinatal Mortality in Nigeria. She is the Principal Investigator of the World Health Organisation Safe Childbirth Checklist Collaboration in Nigeria; the MWAN Safe Childbirth Checklist Initiative for Improving Maternal Health in Sub Saharan Africa (supported by Pfizer) & the Gestational Diabetes Mellitus (GDM) Control Program in the Niger Delta (supported by World Diabetes Foundation).
A passionate Medical Woman, Dr Ogu has since 2005, been in the forefront of MWAN’s activities on health promotion, awareness, sensitization, capacity building and service delivery. She collaborates with relevant Government and Non-Government donor Agencies/Multinationals to extend sensitization, awareness, screening, diagnostic, preventive and quality care services for improving adolescent & maternal health, non-communicable diseases, care & support for victims of violence against women and girls and advocacy for health policy change.
Dr Ogu is married with children.
