I was born in 1967. I was graduated from Instituto Superior de Engenharia de Lisboa in Industrial Chemical Engineering in 1995, received my M.Sc. degree in Technological Organic Chemistry from Faculdade de Ciências e Tecnologia/Universidade Nova de Lisboa in 2001 and my Ph.D. in Chemistry from Instituto Superior Técnico/Technical University of Lisbon in 2010. My research in recent years is centered mainly in the field of nanomaterials: design, synthesis and properties evaluation of well-defined calixarene-based conjugated polymers as new materials for electrochemical switches, electronic and optoelectronic devices and chemical sensors for detection of explosive materials.
More recently, my research is also synthesis and production of carbon-based nanomaterials derived from renewable feedstocks through green processes. Application of luminescent carbon nanomaterials as sensors for biological materials, as catalysts and as bioimaging tools.
