After my graduation in Philosophy from University of Lisbon, 1998, I made the Diplôme d’Études Approfondis (Master) in the Université of Picardie, 1999, under the supervision of Laurent Bove and I have completed a PhD in Contemporary Philosophy from the Université of Paris 8, 2007, under the supervision of Jacques Rancière. Since then, I got a Post-doc researcher position at the Center for Philosophy of Science of the University of Lisbon (CFCUL) under the supervision of the philosopher and ethologist A. Bracinha Vieira.
In 2008, I became head of the CFCUL’s research line “Science and Art” where I have been responsible for the development of an intense program of research activities (seminars, workshops, conferences). I actively participated in the FCT research project “Image in Science and Art” having been co-organizer of several conferences and workshops put forward by the project, of the huge exhibition “BodyIMAGE” which took place at the Knowledge Pavilion, National Agency Ciência Viva, 2011 (seen by circa 40.000 visitors) and of the online platform “Lisbon Center for Image in Science and Art”. I also put forward 2 permanent interdisciplinary seminars: “Cartographies of Territory” and “Science and Art” and, more recently, a “Philosophy Reading Club”. I am currently the head of the new CFCUL Thematic Line Sci-Art-Philo Lab.
Beyond several talks given at national and international conferences, I have been internationally invited as a specialist on Deleuze Aesthetics, e.g., I had the chance to be invited to taught a 6h course on “Deleuze and Literature” at the “Deleuze Camp” (18-22 June 2012) and to give a plenary talk at the “Deleuze Studies Conference” (25-27 June 2012), both in New Orleans, USA. In the last year 2013, this international recognition has been reinforced with the publication of my authored book (“Gilles Deleuze: Philosophie et Littérature” L’Harmattan, Paris, 2013, 519 pp), with a “Preface” by the worldwide celebrated philosopher Jacques Rancière. I was also invited to organize “The 6th Deleuze Studies International Conference” which took place at Lisbon University (July 2013), counting with more than 300 people. I am currently editing its proceedings at the Edinburg Press (forthcoming 2015). I was also invited for a discussion on my book at the Collège International de Philosophie, Paris, 2015.
In line of my activity in Science and Art domain, I had the opportunity of collaborating in the lecturing of an undergraduate course on “Science and Art” given at the Faculty of Science, University of Lisbon. I participated in the design of the International Doctoral Program “Philosophy of Science, Technology, Art and Society” (beginning Sep. 2014), mainly in what concerns the area “Science and Art”. I am currently supervising 1 PhD dissertation (Ana Gaspar) plus 2 other PhD (under evaluation) and 2 International Research Stages.
My research includes Contemporary Philosophy, Aesthetics, Metaphysics, Science and Art, Epistemology and Ethics. In what concerns “Science and Art” interdisciplinary field, I have focused my work on the concepts of “Territory”, “Body” and “Creation”. In parallel with my academic doings, I am developing an art curator activity.
