Masters in theoretical/computational solid-state physics in 1994 at IRRMA, EPFL (CH). PhD in computational physics/nuclear engineering at Paul Scherrer Institute and EPFL (CH) in 2001, with licence as Chief of Operations for the Swiss research reactor CROCUS in 1997. Post-doctoral work in nuclear thermohydraulics and team leader at TU Delft (NL) in 2001 and 2002.
Joined the Swiss Experimental Cancer Research Institute (ISREC) and SIB - Swiss Institute of Bioinformatics (SIB) as data-mining support scientist in 2003. From 2006 to 2010 had a leading role in the European project ACGT (Advancing Clinico-Genomics Trials on Cancer), co-chair of the technical management committee and architect of the interoperable, distributed clinical-informatics platform developed by the consortium. From 2010 to 2013, responsible for the streamlining of bioinformatics data processing at the sequencing center of RIKEN in Yokohama (JP), for which ISO9001 certification was obtained.
Joined University of Basel in 2013 in 2013 as project manager and regional coordinator of SIB training and education program.
Since 2016, associate director of sciCORE, the scientific computing center of University of Basel and SIB. Head of BioMedIT node, in the context of the Swiss Personalized Health Network initiative.
Current interests are in data management and interoperability, "Big Data" management systems, systems operations and bioinformatics/biostatistics.
