Kate is the Repository Platforms Product Manager for Symplectic after relocating to London in 2016. Kate has a background in libraries, research information management and open access and her previous role was with the University of New South Wales in Sydney, Australia as the Manager, Research Reporting. You can find her on twitter as @katecbyrne.
Outside of Kate's salaried roles, she has undertaken numerous leadership roles within the library and information community, mostly recently through her work as Co-Creator of the International Librarians Network (ILN). In this role, Kate has worked together with her two fellow co-creators to build the network from the ground up and is now a Board Member of the International Librarians Network Incorporated and Director of Technical Operations. The ILN is a facilitated peer-mentoring program aimed at helping librarians develop international networks.
It was created based on the belief that innovation and inspiration can cross borders, and that by building professional networks beyond national boarders, ordinary librarians can learn from one another to become better skilled and more engaged professionals. At the end of 2016, the program has had over 5,500 participants from 133 countries. Building the ILN has involved creating a network of volunteers and participants all around the world to help run the network and has been an incredible opportunity to grow a little idea to a program that supports librarians all around the world.
