Gertrud Pfister was a professor at the University Berlin from 1980 to 2000. Since 2001 she is professor at the Department of Nutrition and Sport, University of Copenhagen.
From 1983 to 2001 she served as president of ISHPES and from 2004 to 2008 Pfister was the president of ISSA.
Pfister was a key note speaker at around 50 international congresses. Her areas of expertise are: Sport and gender, sport and leadership, sport and exercise in the context of ageing, ethnicity, migration and transnationalism; sport participation in various countries, physical activity and health, sport coaches, physical activity and sport - intercultural comparisons, media sport, women’s soccer and fandom. In Germany and in Denmark, Pfister conducted several large national and international research projects, among others funded by the IOC, the German Ministry of Women and Youth, the Danish Agency of Science, Technology and Innovation and the EU.
Since 2005 she worked, among others, on the following projects: FREE (“Football Research in an Enlarged Europe”); Copenhagen Women’s Study: Human and social science perspective; Playing at work – physical activity interventions with female cleaners. Pfister has published as second, first or single author more than 250 articles, most of them in peer reviewed books or journals and 30 books.
