Richard Dewhurst is Head of the Beef & Sheep Research Centre at SRUC and Professor of Ruminant Nutrition & Production Systems. Prior to that he was Head of the Animal and Bioscience Department of Teagasc, based at the Grange campus. He was Professor of Dairy Production at Lincoln University (New Zealand) from 2005 to 2008, and prior to that Group Leader for Ruminant Nutrition at IGER in the UK. His research has spanned subjects as diverse as feed intake, once-daily milking, breath and urine analysis, legume silages and milk quality – resulting in over 100 refereed papers. Richard was awarded the Sir John Hammond Memorial Award of the British Society of Animal Science in 2008. Current research interests are in biomarkers for feed efficiency, digestive efficiency and methanogenesis in ruminants.
