Dr Elizabeth (Liz) Laird completed registered nurse education in the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, Northern Ireland in 1982. She worked in roles of registered nurse in London (National Hospital for Nerological Diseases, and Royal Free Hospital) from 1982 - 1986, ward manager in Port Bredy Hospital, West Dorset, England from 1986 - 1992, and senior staff nurse Altnagelvin Area Hospital, Derry, Northern Ireland 1992 - 2002. Since 2002, she has been employed as Lecturer of Nursing at Ulster University. In this role, she has made a sustained and significant contribution to Learning and Teaching in particular, and to Research. Apart from her achievements in curriculum planning, course directorship, mentorship and other teaching and learning activities, she was returned in REF 2014. As such, her contribution to research (in terms of publications and grants) has helped Nursing towards achieving excellent ratings in REF 2014. Liz is a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy.
