Biography

I am engaged in the bioinformatics research, which mainly focuses on microbial genomics and functional genomics. As the first author or corresponding author, I have published 38 peer-reviewed papers in international journals, including PNAS, Nucleic acids research, and Bioinformatics, and one book chapter in Gene Essentiality: Methods and Protocols, series Methods in Molecular Biology. I have developed some web-based systems, such as Ori-Finder used for finding oriCs in bacterial and archaeal genomes with high accuracy, and GC-Profile used for visualizing and analyzing the variation of GC content in genomic sequences. I also constructed some online databases, such as DoriC, a database of oriC regions in both bacterial and archaeal genomes, and DeOri, a database of eukaryotic DNA replication origins. I obtained my Ph.D degree from Tianjin University of China in 2007 under the supervision of Prof. Chun-Ting Zhang, a Member of the Chinese Academy of Sciences, and a Fellow of The World Academy of Sciences (TWAS). Then, I worked at Tianjin University as the principal investigator of the Center of Bioinformatics, Tianjin University (TUBIC) (http://tubic.tju.edu.cn/). In the past years, I have taken charge of four research projects funded by NSFC (National Natural Science Foundation of China) in succession. I once received China Youth Science and Technology Innovation Award (2006), the nomination award for the National Excellent Doctoral Dissertation of China (2009) and was selected into the Program for New Century Excellent Talents in Universities (Chinese Ministry of Education, 2012). Currently, I am a Faculty member of F1000Prime, the editorial board member of Briefings in Bioinformatics, Genomics, Proteomics & Bioinformatics, Scientific Reports, PLoS ONE , and serve as Associate Editor as well as Guest Editor for Evolutionary and Genomic Microbiology (specialty section of Frontiers in Microbiology and Frontiers in Genetics) by organizing the research topic ‘DNA Replication Origins in Microbial Genomes’ (http://journal.frontiersin.org/researchtopic/2193/) and its 2nd Edition (http://journal.frontiersin.org/researchtopic/5862) . Recently, I host an upcoming themed issue 'Recent developments of software and database in microbial genomics and functional genomics' for Briefings in Bioinformatics as Guest Editor (https://doi.org/10.1093/bib/bby013).
