Mirela Petruţa Şuchea received her License in Physics–Biophysics in 1999 from University of Bucharest Romania and her PhD title in Physical Chemistry from Chemistry Department of University of Crete, in 09.12.2009. She attended also various certified training courses in Nanotechnology, Transmission Electron Microscopy (2009 Belgium), Atomic Force Microscopy (2005 from Veeco, Athens) etc. She started her research and academic career less than 15 years ago when she joined, as young researcher, the team of the EU Excellence Network project HPRN-CT-2002-00298 at the IESL FORTH, Greece. Since, Mirela Petruţa Şuchea dedicated her interest to this specific subject, focusing on various materials and applications such as: UV activated metal oxide gas sensors, thin films and nanostructured materials development as photoactive smart coatings, metal oxide surface modification using metal nanoparticles, phosphor films for radiation detection and protection, transparent conductive electrodes for flexible electronics and organic photovoltaic and in the last years materials for photocatalytic, energy and environmental applications. She is first or corresponding author of 18 journal articles (from which 9 in Top 25% and 9 in Top 50% journals after article influence score according to web of science) and coauthor of other 20 journal articles cited over 790 times according to Scopus and has a Hirsh index=13. Her scientific activity covers a interdisciplinary range between material science, physics, chemistry, instruments and instrumentations technology, according to web of science http://www.researcherid.com/rid/B-7547-2012. She co-authored also 3 book chapters and is co-author of 1 patent application to Romanian patent office for a “Photocatalytic device for indoor air purification”. She has extensive experience working in research projects being directly involved in a number of 16 research projects from which 5 EU funded projects, 7 Greek national projects and 2 Romanian. Since 2004, Mirela Petruţa Şuchea is also a member of CEMATEP group of TEI of Crete http://www.cematep.teicrete.gr/. She is member in 12 international conference committees in her research field and presented over 65 (6 invited, 21 orals, 42 posters) works in scientific events. She acts as a reviewer for more than 15 ISI high impact journals and is member in editorial boards of 6 as well as member of different professional organizations. Mirela Petruţa Şuchea have also teaching experience of various courses and laboratories like Microscopy Laboratory (OM, EM-SEM, TEM and AFM-STM), Electrical measurements, Advanced materials growth and characterization techniques, etc. and supervised many diploma theses and master theses at TEI of Crete.
